TRICIA'S TIPS:
Tricia from The Vagrant Cafe suggests the following:
1. Rice and beans. (hint: make them before cstone and have about 1 1/2 measure to every 1 measure of beans. if you have
3 cups of rice, have 1 cup of beans, etc)
2. carrots and green peppers (refreshing snack. don't eat on an empty stomach though.) =P
3. pizza. (buy it at walmart and get more for less than the vendor fare. bring some plastic wrap with you and it'll keep
for a couple of days too)
4. veggie burgers (these can be gross if they taste like meat, but if you cook in advance, they'll keep well in a cooler
and then you can take them out, wrap them in foil and let them get hot in the sun.) ;-)
5. Protein shake powder (bring some along and add a spoonful to your lemonade. if it's expensive powder, it'll be more
absorbable and have less of an aftertaste)
6. Boiled eggs. (okay, these gross me out sometimes too, but even when they're green they're still good. as long as they
don't smell bad. slice them in between two slices of bread when you're ready to eat and it's yummy.)
7. Boli pizza bread with two resealable containers. One of pizza sauce and one of nacho dipping cheese.
8. Bagels and peanut butter. Add a cup of milk and you have a whole protien meal.
9. Trail mix. Make your own with rolled oats, nuts, dried fruits, pretzels, etc. Whatever sounds good. You can add m&ms
and they'll melt on everything else and make it all clumpy and really yummy if you like chocolate. I don't. You can also add
a cheese powder or something of the like instead of chocolate. If you do add cheese powder and it's somewhat organic, you've
got a whole protien. I'm sure you could try flavoring a dry milk powder as well and that would be good too.
10. Power Bars. 'Nuff said.
11. Nacho chips, salsa, and nacho dipping cheese. Add some spice to your life and add your own (spices) to the salsa.
12. Water. I know this isn't a food really, but it's an idea. Bring your own gallons of water. You can empty some water
from them and then put them in the freezer so that they're ice packs, and as they begin to melt, you can use them for drinking.
Add ice at Cornerstone if you want them to melt slower.
13. Apples and Bananas. I know they don't hold up THAT well, but they hold up better than most other fruits. Grapes or
Strawberries would probably do alright too if you prepped them before you leave for the fest.
14. Instant soup mixes. These are usually really good because all you need is boiling water and a spoon. If you can't
bring your own cookstove, etc, go ask your neighbors. If that doesn't work, you can always see if you can weedle some hot
water from a vendor.
Watch out for these mixes though. A lot of times they have a really high sodium content with not a lot of vitamins. Try
and get something that's been enriched.
15. The Latest and the Greatest (no wait, that's a Luxury album) ;-)
16. Subway cheese sandwiches!!! Come on guys, you can shell out a few bucks for a cheese sandwich with fresh veggies on
it, can't you? It's worth it.
